Sport Pilot was created relatively recently to allow for an easier, simpler, and more affordable entry to flying. It provides many of the same privileges as Private Pilot, with only a few exceptions, such as flying at night. One of the many benefits of earning a Sport Pilot Certificate is that, should you choose to further expand your airplane flying experience, all of your training with us will count toward a Private Pilot Certificate. We enjoy thinking of flight as a sport -- as something challenging and engaging, something that you can use to push yourself to grow or do for the sheer pleasure of it, or both.
We are certified by the FAA to train pilots for a Sport Pilot Certificate. We "guesstimate" -- we make an educated guess based on our experiences and data from other sources -- that it takes about 50 hours of flight and 20 hours of ground instruction (presuming you have already taken the written test) to be ready for your Practical Test to earn a Sport Certificate -- but it is entirely up to your skill and commitment to learning. We are very careful with our students, and we only solo them when they can reliably demonstrate ALL skills necessary to earn a Sport Pilot license. Naturally, this means that once they solo, they are very close to the finish line. Our students also enjoy the added benefit of training in both of our very different aircraft. Other costs to consider are the written test preparation supplies, the written test fees, Designated Pilot Examiner fees, and Aircraft rental for the check ride. Note that we fly regularly, and so we stay pretty sharp. Piloting is a perishable skill. Come fly with us to stay current, to add a new skill, or JUST TO GET UP IN THE AIR! *price subject to change
